'KNOTS' 2023/2026
Lithography print, aluminium casts; Three piece unique installation; 900x120cm (full length)
Through a variety of lithography printing techniques, this artwork depicts a vast, living epidermis etched with countless textures and hues.
The desert from above unfolds like skin: weathered, scarred and inscribed with the memories of its past. I sought to render it as an intimate close-up of pseudo-human flesh - tactile, vulnerable, and deeply intertwined - inspired by the New Mexico (USA) desert. Arid ridges rise like veins, while cracked earth and shifting sands resemble a subtle palette of bruised and sunburned skin. Half-melted letters cling to the corners of the print in a futile attempt to hold it on the wall.
They can be read as TO MATTER - a last attempt to be relevant.
This piece was created during my residency in spring 2023 at Tamarind Institute, New Mexico (USA).
Special thanks to my collaborative PTP printers Jin Lee and Katherine Westbrook and Kestutis Dovydaitis (“Skulpturos Plastika”).
