'PRECONDITIONED EXPECTATIONS // ABSTRACT LANDSCAPE' 2020

Video performance 10min

Performance documentation  (LINK)

It is always what we do not see, that intrigues us the most.” During the video performance by interdisciplinary artist Roma Auskalnyte, something is reflecting from under the dress on the mirror. If a scenery will never be revealed, only the description of it exists?

“A DESCRIPTION OF AN ABSTRACT LANDSCAPE:
A BODY IN SPACE SURROUNDED BY EYES.
NO LIMITS AND NO DIRECTIONS. A FREE FORM. “

Black mirror comes from 17th century landscape artists’ mirror called Claude Glass. It was used to simplify forms and colours of the scenery. “You never see a clear image in the black mirror reflection, only the abstraction: an abstract form, almost the idea of yourself…”  What kind of preconditions you can have when approaching the work with such strong iconography as a dress and a female performer...
